Dr John Nicholas BSc(Hons),
PhD, MCMPE
John’s career in the construction industry
started in 1996 as an apprentice plumber / pipe fitter. Having
completed his apprenticeship ‘on
the tools’, John moved into a job where he was designing
and estimating building services installations for commercial and
industrial
projects. Whilst employed in this role John gained an ONC and HNC
in building services design.
Having spent eleven years in the industry
John decided to study full-time for a degree in Construction
Management. In 1997, John
graduated with
a first class honours degree from UMIST and was awarded Construction
Management student of the year. From 1997 to 2000 John studied
at the University of Wolverhampton for his doctorate. Whilst
studying for
this, John taught undergraduate degree courses and was employed
as a research fellow to investigate the assessment of flood damage
and
became heavily involved with OPERC (having completed several
research contracts and written numerous research papers with Dr
David J.
Edwards).
In 2000 John gained a full-time position at the
University of Wolverhampton where he was employed as a lecturer.
Throughout
his academic career,
John has published a number of papers and has acted as a consultant
to a number of different organisations including the UK Ministry
of Defence and JCB World Parts. In 2002, John resigned from
Wolverhampton University to take up a prestigious post in industry.
