Lafarge Health and Safety Month reinforces commitment to safety

Lafarge Cement UK's logistics teams around the UK have reinforced the company's year-round commitment to safety with a range of activities as part of Health and Safety Month. This month is now well established as an opportunity for the Lafarge Group's businesses in 78 countries around the world to spend time focusing purely on safety.

Supply and distribution director, Dave Burley explained: "The logistics and supply chain teams took part in exercises which focused attention on continuing to achieve high standards in health and safety, in particular by adopting a consistent approach through the use and application of the Group's worldwide safety standards."

The wide range of events included:

• Checks on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and tankers at all logistics sites across the UK from Aberdeen and Inverness in Scotland down to Liskeard in Cornwall
• Clean-up of safety signs and audits to assess slips and trips hazards
• Yellow line and trip hazard marking
• Safe handling of cement demonstration at Liskeard Depot

Dave Burley continued: "Our health and safety events provided the whole logistics team with an opportunity to develop further safe working practices and refresh our knowledge and skills."

Lafarge Cement UK managing director Erdogan Pekenc added: "It is important to note that there is a real passion for safety in our business, not just at these events, but throughout the year. A lot of hard work has gone into these events which have given all our employees an opportunity to demonstrate this enthusiasm and I am sure it will go a long way to helping ensure all of us continue to return home safely after each shift or day."
