OPERC Summer Conference 2009

The 2009 OPERC Summer Conference will be held on Thursday 16th July 2009 at the Hatherton Hotel, Penkridge, Stafford, ST19 5QP.

Delegates should arrive by 10.30pm for light refreshments ready for a 11am prompt start and the event is due to finish by about 5pm. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

During this event there will be a series of 30 minute presentations given on a range of topics including:

  • Visibility issues on forward tipping site dump trucks (Mr Brian Hume, Health and Safety Manager, Balfour Beatty Regional Civil Engineering)
  • Fall protection for tail lifts (Ms Carol Grainger, HSE)
  • The OPERC health and safety test for process operations (within Quarries) (Mr Barry Robinson MBE, OPERC Chief Examiner)
  • Access step equipment for large earthmoving machinery (Spillard Safety Systems)
  • Mini excavator stability issues (Dr David Edwards, Loughborough University)
  • The safe use of cut off saws (Mr Scott Ellis, HSE Manager, Morgan Est)
  • Operator competence within the quarrying industry (Mr Gary Milnes, Lafarge Aggregates Ltd)
  • The total cost of ownership (Mr Dirk Stukkens, Komatsu Europe International)
