Meet the Team - Major Martin Morris

Major Martin Morris attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in1986 and was commissioned into the Corps of Royal Engineers in April 1987. On completion of Special to Arm training at the Royal School of Military Engineering, his first appointment was as a troop commander in Germany. He commanded a troop of 36 Royal Engineer soldiers and non-commissioned officers on military and civil engineering tasks in Germany. During subsequent tours as a squadron Second-in-Command, Regimental Training Major and Squadron Commander he was the project officer for construction tasks in the Channel Islands and throughout the United Kingdom.

In 1999 Major Morris took up the appointment of Senior Instructor of the Plant Branch, Royal School of Military Engineering, responsible for the training of Royal Engineer Plant Operator Mechanics and Plant Fitters on a significant part of the range of plant and construction equipment utilised by the Corps. During his tenure the NVQ 3 in Specialist Plant Operation was introduced for all Class 2 Plant Operator Mechanics. From September 2000 to September 2001 he successfully completed the Professional Engineer Training(Plant) course which included a four month attachment to JCB.

Prior to his current position as Second in Command of a Close Support Engineer Regiment of 750 soldiers with a significant plant component, Major Morris was employed at the Defence Logistic Organisation responsible for the support of engineer off-highway construction equipment in service with the three Services and for the introduction of new equipment. Major Morris is a member of the Society of Operations Engineers and the Institute of Plant Engineers.
