NESTLE GROUP DISTRIBUTION,
BARDON,
LEICESTERSHIRE
Shift Safety Advisor.
I was part of the action team that formulated the health and safety action plan for the site, as a team we designed a policy, plan and an organisational hierarchy and developed methods for assessment, monitoring and review that mirrored the Nestle group policy and integrated working practices and workplace constraints to maximise the safety culture on site. Bardon was a distribution operation of Nestle own brands, on a 35 acre site with approx. 240,000sq ft of storage, it incorporated bulk pallet delivery and a pick to belt operation and an order picking operation using stand on picking vehicles.. My responsibilities on shift were risk assessment, accident reporting and investigation, compilation of accident statistics, toolbox talks, induction training and assessment of agency operators new to the site, COSHH assessments regarding the charging of FLT batteries and training operators in the safe changing of FLT batteries.
March 1994 to November 1995
This period was spent working for various employment agencies following the closure of my own business, it included a six month stint at R W Vesey Ltd, who in October 1998 contacted me and offered me the position of safety technician with them.
July 1983 until March 1994
I started and operated my own business in the public house supplies industry, the business was customer focused and offered levels of support that were not available from the larger organisations in the market place. A combination of the massive reorganisation in the tenanted house sector following the new landlord and tenant act and smuggling after the removal of cross border barriers within the EEC forced me to cease trading in March 1994.
I list my hobbies as renovating my 90 year old house, getting into the countryside to exercise our dog and myself, sea and fly fishing as time allows.
I am a member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health and The International Institute of Risk and Safety Management.
